I read this back in the spring/summer and thought it was terrific. A great YA book for older teens. Like Stephanie Perkins’ characters, LaCour’s Emi is fabulously and quirkily talented. In this case it’s set design for movies. How is this even possible? She’s graduating high school but scouting estate sales for just right piece for a major motion picture. Who cares if that’s even possible because it was fascinating and entertaining. One of the strengths of the book is that Emi happens to be gay and it’s not even an issue or deal. It’s just part of the background that she goes for girls. Reminded me of the world of Francesca Lia Block. Not magical, but romantic, quirky, interesting.
