I’d Tell You I Love You But Then I’d Have to Kill You by Ally Carter

I’m on a boarding school role here. I had a great past three days of reading a lot and quickly and getting two absolutely delightful YA books polished off. I’ll attribut it in part to teh awesomeness of the books, but it’s also because I’ve been watching teh Olympics and it’s easy to read at the same time. So, the first book was this great boarding school book. Why so great? Because it’s not just boarding school…it’s SPY BOARDING SCHOOL! And, because no one is content to just write a book today, instead it always has to be a series, this is merely the first in what will be the Gallagher Girls series.  But I won’t be bitter about that because I’m looking forward to reading the next one.

15 year old Cammie is the daughter of spies.  Her father was killed on a mission, so it’s just Cammie and her mom now.  Plus 100 other girls who attend the super elite, super secret, spy training school her mother runs.  Everyone who attends is a genius, they all speak 14 languages, and they take being a spy quite seriously.  There are gons of gadgets and secret doorways and it’s all very funny and delightful.  The slight plot is that Cammie falls for a town boy (the townspeople are meant to believe it’s a boarding school for filthy rich delinquent girls) and sneaks out to meet him, but has to be undercover.  Although that storyline was enjoyable, it really was all the spy details as the girls take their first covert operations class, the relationship with her mom, and of course (as in all boarding school books) the friendships and sisterhood she shares with her classmates, that make this such a good book.

Enjoy!!!!! Oh, and I heard that the Alex Rider Series is supposed to be good, too. 😉

  2. Oh, and the funny thing is that Ally Carter and Jennifer Lynn Barnes are friends! And they BOTH write spy books. HAHAHA. See, I think that is pretty funny. Alright – I gotta go now. Sorry for this really long post.

  3. Priscilla thanks for your list! I’ll be sure to check out some of the others. The Alex Rider series is indeed great (and one of them is set in a rather deadly boarding school).

  8. Ok so everyone… good for you for reading this… i hope you did! It is amazing and i love the author. The series that I listed above have now been expanded and Ally also started a new series… the first book is called Heist Society but i STILL haven’t read it! She is really becoming famous now – i was reading her books and blog since the beginning and i am so proud – even though i haven’t met her yet 🙂 Anyway, I am waiting for her to come to Boston so i can drive out there for a book signing or something. I am a major fan. And yes, i always thought it should be a movie – and many of her books were optiones for a movie, too! They have to, i guess, wait until the right time.

  9. I love this book and the series!!! Now I can’t wait for the fourth book to come out,” Only The Good Spy Young” it comes out July 26th and the audio book on July 6th!!!! Can’t wait my mom pre-ordered it for me!! YAY!!
