The Fortunes of Indigo Skye by Deb Caletti

Indigo works as a waitress in a charming cafe where the locals are tightknit and funky.  In comes a stranger one day and like something out of a fairy tale Indigo is kind to him and impresses him and he mails her a check for a million doillars (I think that is the amount.) Indigo decides she will give the money back, but first she tracks him down in Hawaii, where her father coincidentally lives.  Thus she not only gets to go meet her benevolent stranger and talk to him, but she also gets to reconnect with her dad.

I read this ever so long ago, but I do believe I liked it. Also, if someone gave me a million dollars, I’d keep it.
